Crews worked around the clock to transform the massive multi-use complex on Lansdowne Street into Boston's House of Blues before doors opened on Thursday, Feb. 19. Boston's House of Blues 100-seat restaurant also opened on Thursday, Feb. 19 with executive chef Tindaro Losurdo taking the helm. He's also spearheading the grits at the HOB's 75-seat private dining area known as the Foundation Room, catering to the complex's VIP diners. J. Geils Band, in a sold-out show, came together for the first time in 10 years for the grand opening to kick of the House of Blue's otherwise youth-geared lineup of musical acts including Jesse McCartney on Friday, Feb. 27, Bloc Party on Thursday, March 19, Lady GaGa on Monday, March 30 and Katy Perry on Wednesday, April 1. For those not in the know, Avalon officially closed on Oct. 1, 2007 and was sold to the House of Blues by the Lyons Group. The former Lansdowne hot spot is currently being transformed into a live-music complex that will accommodate 2,500 including a 350-seat lounge and a 125-seat restaurant. Boston faves the Dropkick Murphys will play six consecutive nights from Thursday, March 12 until Tuesday, March 17. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of its album "Clarity" with a 10-city tour, Jimmy Eat World announced that they're playing on the HOB stage on Thursday, Feb. 26. Other previously announced acts set to play the soon-to-be-opened venue include B.B. King and Buddy Guy on Sunday, Feb. 22 and George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic on Wednesday, Feb. 25.

Thanks to its close proximity to Fenway Park, Game On is a great place to come and watch the game if you can't score a ticket to the game. Good bar food and tons of TVs. A bar on the edge of Fenway Park's outfield. You enter from Lansdowne Street, but a large window in the sitting area allows diners and drinkers to peer out onto the field to watch the games. According to BU Today, there's "no nachos, no chicken wings, no quesadillas," so don't expect typical bar fair; "high-end," classic sandwiches like "pastrami, salami, beef brisket, corned beef, liverwurst.... turkey club, grilled cheese with bacon, and 'sliders'" make up the better part of the menu's hearty choices. Jake Ivory's is a boisterous bar featuring a two man on stage dueling piano show every Friday and Saturday that attracts a mish mosh of Landsdowne St reveler, Sox game traffic, and the rare and elusive fan of a dueling piano show. Located in Fenway a few short doors down from Manny Ramirez' favorite launching pad, Bill's Bar is the unofficial Dirty Rock Club of Lansdowne Street, harkening back to Boston's rock n' roll glory days. With live shows each night, Bill's features the sleaziest grind on the strip, from nationally touring metal bands to the best of a blossoming local indie scene. Each Friday, Bill's is the hotspot for edgy live music on Lansdowne -- the Dirty Rock Club is back. Drink up!

Tequila Rain is the lone dance club still open on Lansdowne in late 2007. Featuring Buff Fridays and the Taboo Lounge. Tequila Rain specializes in Girls Nights Out, including Bachelorette Parties on Friday and Saturday nights. Reservations for these are required.

A famous watering hole, often featured in live camera shots during crucial Red Sox games. The Cask 'n Flagon is where Red Sox nation gathers to celebrate or commiserate. Recently featured in the Reebok ad that debuted during the 2007 World Series - Donny Wahlberg sat at the bar here, and Bobby Orr walked by too. Those heading to a game can save a few bucks by filling up on the Cask's straightforward bar fare and skipping the ballpark's expensive snacks. The walls are lined with high-definition TVs and photos that depict the histories of Fenway and the Sox. Locals fill the huge wraparound bar that resides in the middle of the main room while keeping an eye on all the sports news via an ever-present sports ticker. The Cask has some of the city's most aggressive bouncers--be on your best behavior.

Boston Beer Works is the oldest brewery/restaurant combo in Boston. They have 3 locations, this one across from Fenway is bustling during baseball season and throughout the year. The beers on tap change weekly. Usually there are several seasonal offerings to go along with a stable of beers, ranging from light to dark. There are alternatives for those not inclined towards the hop-laden brews too. The food is excellent - basic American bar food done right. And what's better than tucking into a burger and a beer? Chowing down right next to the tanks where that beer was made.

The Foundation Lounge is the "hotel bar" of the Hotel Commonwealth. It offers high-end design and high end drinks, with a bar menu that leans towards the Japanese (edamame, maki, kobe beef, spring rolls). Creative cusine and interesting cocktails make this a hotspot on the weekends, after work crowd, and wildly popular during Red Sox games.
